Roof soft washing in northern Michigan
Those black streaks running down your roof are alive. Blasting them off damages the shingle and they come right back. We treat them so they die at the root — safely, with no pressure on the roof.
What the black streaks actually are
That staining is Gloeocapsa magma, a hardy blue-green algae that feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles. It shows up first on north and shaded slopes, spreads across the roof, and holds moisture against the shingle — shortening its life. It is not dirt, and it will not rinse off.
Low-pressure treatment, not a power wash
Pressure-washing a roof strips the protective granules and can void your shingle warranty. We apply a soft-wash treatment that kills the algae and mold at the root; it then rinses and weathers away without a single high-pressure pass. The roof is protected, the warranty is protected, and the streaks don't come racing back.
How we do it
Four steps, no surprises.
- 01Inspect
We check slope, shingle condition and the worst-affected faces, and confirm the approach.
- 02Protect
Landscaping and gutters below are pre-wet and protected before any solution goes up.
- 03Soft-wash treat
Low-pressure application that kills the growth — no walking-and-blasting that wears the roof.
- 04Rinse & check
Controlled rinse and a final look so you know exactly what changed.
